If you’re in Utah with a car that has no keys and no title, you can still donate it through ReviveRides. Both issues are solvable. The title is the critical piece. Your first move is to apply for a duplicate Utah title with the DMV. Once your new title arrives, we schedule free towing anywhere in Utah—even if the car can’t start, roll, or be unlocked—using a flatbed tow truck when needed.
Here’s how it works locally. You file for a duplicate title with the Utah DMV (online, by mail, or in person in places like South Salt Lake, West Valley City, Ogden, Provo, or St. George). It usually costs a small fee and can take about 1–4 weeks. While that’s processing, just make sure a tow truck can reach the vehicle—driveway in Sugar House, storage lot in West Jordan, curbside in Layton, or a farm road in Utah County. When your duplicate title arrives, you sign it, we arrange a keyless pickup at no cost to you, and you still receive a tax receipt for your donation to benefit Heritage for the Blind.
How to get your free pickup scheduled
1. Confirm you’re the titled owner in Utah
Make sure the missing title was in your name, or you’re the legal heir/owner. If the last title wasn’t Utah, note the state. This matters for which DMV process you use. Have your VIN, ID, and any old registration handy, whether the car’s in Salt Lake City, Sandy, Tooele, Logan, or down in Washington County.
2. Apply for a Utah duplicate or replacement title
Your first real step is with the Utah DMV. Apply for a duplicate title (online, mail, or in-person at a DMV like West Valley, Farmington, Orem, or Cedar City). Expect a small fee and roughly 1–4 weeks processing. Keep your VIN, plate number, and ID ready so you don’t have to make multiple trips or calls.
3. While you wait, confirm tow-truck access without keys
Keys are not required for donation. We can use a flatbed to load and transport a non-running, locked, or no-key vehicle. Just make sure the tow truck can reach it: clear snow, unlock any gates, and notify us if it’s in an underground garage (Downtown SLC) or tight alley (older Ogden or Provo neighborhoods).
4. Call ReviveRides and tell us: no keys, new title coming
Once you’ve submitted the duplicate title request, reach out to ReviveRides. Let us know the car is missing keys and that your duplicate title is in process. We’ll answer questions about your specific situation in places from Herriman to Bountiful and outline what to expect when your new title arrives in the mail.
5. When the duplicate title arrives, sign and schedule pickup
As soon as the Utah duplicate title shows up, sign it where the DMV indicates for a transfer. Then contact ReviveRides to schedule free towing—driveway in Millcreek, apartment lot in Murray, or ranch outside Spanish Fork. Tell us again that the car has no keys so we send the right truck and equipment for a keyless load.
6. Hand off the title, tow the vehicle, receive your tax receipt
On pickup day, hand the signed title to the tow driver or follow the simple instructions we provide. We’ll tow the vehicle at no cost to you anywhere in Utah, process the donation, and mail or email you a tax receipt (typically at least $500 claimed value; above $500 you’ll use IRS Form 1098‑C) for your gift benefiting Heritage for the Blind.
Potential complications to watch for
The title is mandatory in most cases, keys are not
Tip: In Utah, the missing title is the real blocker. Without it, we usually can’t complete the donation, even if we can physically tow the car. Start the DMV duplicate title application first; that clock (1–4 weeks) is what determines how soon we can finalize your donation.
Loan or lien still showing on the old title record
Tip: If there’s an unpaid loan or old lien listed with the Utah DMV, they may not issue a clean duplicate title until it’s resolved. Check if the loan was fully paid off and ask the lender for a lien release if needed. Clearing this up early avoids DMV delays and repeat visits, especially in busier offices along the Wasatch Front.
Vehicle access problems for a keyless tow
Tip: No keys are fine—but only if the tow truck can actually reach and load the vehicle. Tight underground garages, steep canyon driveways, or blocked yards in places like Cottonwood Heights or Park City may require special planning. Tell us exactly where the car is and any clearance issues so we can send a flatbed or specialty truck if needed.
Out-of-state title history or no prior Utah registration
Tip: If the last title was from another state (for example, Nevada or Idaho) and you never retitled it in Utah, the process can be different. You may need that state’s duplicate title first or additional paperwork with the Utah DMV. When you call us, tell us the state listed on the last known title so we can point you in the right direction.
